Libertarians want to end wasteful and inefficient government spending
The Libertarian Party of North Dakota as well as the national Libertarian Party, affirms the rights of all individuals to live in whatever manner they choose as long as they do not forcibly interfere with the equal rights of others to live in whatever manner they choose. Governments, on the other hand, affirm the right of the state to control and regulate the lives of its citizens. In accordance with the Declaration of Independence, we hold that governments should not interfere with or violate the rights of individuals to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, which includes the right to securely own private property. To this end, and recognizing as Thomas Jefferson affirmed, ” A government big enough to give you everything you want, is big enough to take away everything you have,” the LPND supports limiting the power and influence of governments at all levels and prohibiting the initiation of physical force against others, prohibiting government censorship of speech and the press, and prohibiting government interference with private property rights. We believe that true freedom exists when individuals are free to make decisions for themselves and among themselves in a true free market. While we recognize that these changes will not happen overnight, the LPND supports legislation and policies aimed at providing more liberty to the citizens of our communities, state, and nation. As the late William Allen White stated, ” Liberty is the only thing you can’t have unless you give it to others.”
